Gender equality is the key to a future that is better, brighter, and fairer for everyone. Despite growing political momentum in gender equality, development actors continue to grapple with systemic challenges. These include dealing with discriminatory legal and policy frameworks that create barriers to gender inequality, inadequate funding for gender-focused issues, and insufficient volumes of gender-disaggregated data that makes it difficult to identify issues and track progress in gender equality. We are committed to supporting our clients in addressing these barriers and maximizing their impact on gender and its intersections with other issues.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) wanted to strengthen engagement with donors in Europe and East Asia to shore up their commitments to gender equality, but lacked insight on donors’ funding and policy priorities in gender equality and opportunities for engagement in the sector.
SEEK collaborated with the BMGF team to determine the key policy and funding insights needed to inform their engagement with donors on gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and women in leadership. We broke down BMGF’s information needs into concrete questions for our in-donor country consultants to address. From there, we worked to identify relevant insights and built compelling visuals outlining donor priorities in gender equality funding and policy. Finally, we distilled in-market political intelligence into specific, actionable recommendations to help BMGF prioritize engagement with key donors in the gender sector.
